picnic_2021About 65 people attended the 2022 summer picnic and meeting of the Foster's Pond Corporation. It was the 17th annual FPC picnic, a community tradition which traces its roots back 95 years. Pond-wide picnics were held annually between 1927 and some time in the 1960s, when the tradition lapsed. The modern event was revived in 2005, and has been held every year since, with the exception of 2020, when large outdoor gatherings were barred due to COVID.

The picnic, under sunny skies, was held at the home of Juli Stoughton (facing camera, right), 2 Willard Circle.

President Steve Cotton called the formal meeting to order at 3:15 p.m. He thanked Juli, the officers and directors of the Corporation, and the area residents who have volunteered on behalf of the Foster's Pond community.

Treasurer Dave Brown gave a report on the Corporation's finances.

Steve reported that the area, according to federal monitors, is in a condition of "extreme drought," which can promote excessive algae growth. He reported that the Main Pond had been treated for blue-green algae on August 5.

He also reported that two areas of the Pond, totaling 15 acres, were being treated for fanwort, and that a dive team had spent three days hand-pulling fanwort in Dug Pond and would return to continue hand-pulling in the Main Pond and the Channel.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
