Notes:
We've been doing comprehensive weed surveys since we re-activated the FPC in 2004. So we've got a very good handle on what's in the Pond and what the effects of our program have been.
In 2004, about three-quarters of the Pond was densely covered with weeds. The black portions are open water. (Dug Pond shows entirely black, but that's only because it wasn't part of our 2004 survey.) Just a small portion of the Main Pond, as well as the Mill Reservoir, were open. The green patches in the 2004 picture are lilies; everywhere else, the various colors are depicting different densities of fanwort.
We treated for fanwort in 2005, with another spot treatment in the Channel in 2007, and the results held to an astonishing extent. In2008, all the light blue is open water; the green is lilies; that little spot of pink is fanwort.
In 2009, fanwort is coming back - that's the green areas - but the Pond is still mostly open water.
So in 2010 we did not treat the Pond for fanwort, but we did survey for it, and I'll preview that in a moment.
