Another piece of the program is keeping invasives out of the pond. We've joined a nationwide program to Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers, and we're using of their logo and promotional materials.

Fanwort probably was brought to the pond by somebody who couldn't bear to flush a goldfish down the toilet, so they dumped the fishbowl into the pond. And fanwort is still in pet stores as a common aquarium plant. So we need to be educated and vigilant. If you've got guests who bring in a canoe, or you've taken your kayak to another pond, be sure to wash the hull thoroughly.
