The key is keeping phosphates out of the pond.  They can leach in from fertilizers and detergents, and an overpopulation of geese doesn't help either.

I won't preach here, but please go to our web site to learn more. Particularly if you've got a septic system or property on the Pond, you need to do everything you can to control your use of phosphates - because they WILL wind up in the Pond, even from a brand-new septic system.
